ATLANTA (Reuters) - Second baseman Dan Uggla agreed to a five-year contract that will keep him with the Atlanta Braves through the 2015 season, the team said on Thursday.
Atlanta said a long-term deal with the two-time All-Star, who is coming off the best offensive season of his Major League Baseball (MLB) career, had been their goal since they acquired him in a trade with Florida in November.
"He gives us the consistent right-handed power we have been looking to add to the middle of our lineup for several years," Braves General Manager Frank Wren said in a statement.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, but a report on MLB's website said it was worth $62 million (www.mlb.com).
Uggla hit .287 with 33 home runs and 105 RBIs for the Marlins in 2010, ranking him fifth in the National League for homers and RBIs.
The 30-year-old leads all second basemen in home runs since he broke into the league with the Marlins in 2006.
