The New England Patriots and veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne have agreed to a one-year deal, a source confirmed to FOX Sports 1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo confirmed on Monday.

The news was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

A six-time Pro Bowler, Wayne has been without a team since the Indianapolis Colts opted not to re-sign him following the 2014 season. Wayne had offseason surgery on his triceps and knee and went in for a physical with the Patriots over the weekend.

The Patriots have been dealing with injury issues at the wide receiver position as Brandon LaFell and Julian Edelman have missed all of training camp. Wayne's presence gives the team a steady hand with a proven track record in big games.

The Colts and Patriots will face off in Week 6 in Indianapolis.
