Cal and Sonny Dykes are nearing agreement on a contract extension and raise, a source told Fox Sports Wednesday. The deal is imminent for the third-year Golden Bears head coach.

The 46-year-old Texan led the Bears to a 7-5 mark this season and their first winning season since 2011. He is 35-38 all-time in his six seasons as a head coach, after spending three years turning around the Louisiana Tech program and leading them to a 9-3 season in 2012 before coming to Berkeley.

Cal will play Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 29. A bowl victory would give Cal its first eight-win season since the 2009 team was 8-5. Cal started the 2015 season with a 5-0 record for its best start since 2007 and was ranked nationally for the first time since 2009 (AP Top 25) and 2010 (Coaches Poll).
