Vanderbilt needed someone to step up within its roster. Prior to today, the Commodores started the 2015 season 0-2. This included a surprising loss at home to Western Kentucky. Any and all positive vibes were desperately needed for head coach Derek Mason's team.

Receiver Trent Sherfield stepped up for his team in a big way on Saturday afternoon.

The pass-catcher out of Illinois hauled in 16 catches for an eye-popping 240 yards and a touchdown in a 47-7 victory over Austin Peay. He broke Earl Bennett's previous school record of 223 receiving yards in 2007.

Not only did Sherfield cement himself within the Vanderbilt record books, but he helped tremendously in getting his team their first victory of the season.
