BOSTON -- Boston Bruins center Marc Savard will not play Monday night in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Buffalo Sabres, a team spokesman said. The Bruins lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2, and can eliminate the Sabres with a win Monday night (7 p.m., NESN, MSG, CBC).
"We are still awaiting the results of Marc Savard's medical tests this afternoon and he will not be in our lineup," Bruins Director of Communications Matthew Chmura said.
Savard, 32, has not played since March 7 when he suffered a concussion from a blindside hit delivered by Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke. The 12-year NHL veteran had 10 goals and 33 points in 41 games this season. He missed 15 games after breaking his left foot in November and eight games to a knee injury in January.
Savard has a career 0.89 points-per-game average but he steps up in the playoffs, posting 7 goals and 19 points in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He has 205 goals and 696 points in 782 regular-season games.
Savard began skating a week ago Sunday. He began practicing with the team Saturday and has engaged in light contact.
