Roma, Lazio continue battle for second place

Rome, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Roma and Lazio resume their tussle for second place in Serie A this weekend as both sides face teams from Milan.

Roma moved one point clear of Lazio last weekend with a 2-0 win over Genoa, while Lazio was held to a 1-1 draw at Atalanta, leaving Rudi Garcia's side with a slight edge on their rivals with four games to play.

A trip to the San Siro to play AC Milan used to be a daunting task, but it is not nearly as imposing these days with the Rossoneri struggling in 11th place and in the midst of a five-game winless streak.

Even still, Roma will need to be careful not to slip against Milan, which is only playing the role of spoiler at this point in the campaign.

Lazio's home match with Inter Milan figures to be more difficult as Inter is still chasing a Europa League berth over the final month of the season.

After stumbling at bottom-half side Atalanta, Lazio will try to get back on track with the club having claimed just one win in their last four matches to allow Roma to pass them.

Despite sitting in eighth place and enduring a disappointing campaign themselves, Inter is in much better form than AC Milan and is still in contention for a Europa League spot having gone unbeaten in their last six outings.

Napoli has also climbed back into the mix for a top-three place as Rafael Benitez's side sits four points adrift of Lazio for third place.

The team travels to already-relegated Parma in need of three points to keep up the chase, and the match comes on the heels of a 1-1 draw with Dnipro in the first leg of their Europa League semifinal on Thursday.

Fifth-place Fiorentina visits Empoli with the Viola hoping to hold on to their Europa League place, while Sampdoria is one point back and invades Udinese.

Champions Juventus host relegation-battling Cagliari, with the club sitting six points from safety.

Cesena is on the verge of being relegated and can be assured of being sent to Serie B with a loss to Sassuolo and a point for Atalanta at Palermo.

Chievo tangles with Hellas Verona for bragging rights in the city of Verona, while Torino and Genoa round out the weekend with a clash on Monday.
