Robredo, Klizan ease into second round at Croatian Open
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Tommy Robredo of Spain and Slovakia's Martin Klizan were among the winners Tuesday in the first round of the Croatian Open.
The fifth-seeded Robredo cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic. It snapped a three-match losing streak for Robredo, who reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and lost in the third round at Wimbledon.
Klizan, this week's sixth seed, thumped Italy's Paolo Lorenzi, 6-2, 6-1. He had lost two straight matches and hasn't been past the second round in his last seven events.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Also, eighth-seeded Carlos Berlocq of Argentina posted a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Croatian qualifier Josko Topic, while seventh-seeded German Florian Mayer was eliminated by Slovenian qualifier Blaz Kavcic, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 7-5.
Spain's Albert Montanes claimed a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory over Serbian qualifier Dusan Lajovic and will next play top-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who earned a bye into round two.
Andreas Haider-Maurer of Austria posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic to earn a second-round matchup with second-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Other winners Tuesday were Serbia's Viktor Troicki and Slovenia's Aljaz Bedene. Troicki toppled Croatian wild card Antonio Veic in straight sets, while Bedene dropped a mere four games in a victory over Dutch qualifier Boy Westerhof.
In addition, Frenchman Gael Monfils dropped Croatian Mate Pavic, 7-5, 6-2, and Argentinian Horacio Zeballos outlasted Croatian Borna Coric, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-0.
