Redskins' Shanahan ventures again into Area 51, land of Portis and a pair of draft busts

The Washington Redskins own the No. 51 pick in the NFL draft, and Mike Shanahan is very familiar with that spot.

He had that selection three years in a row with the Denver Broncos early last decade and went 1 for 3, taking Clinton Portis in 2002 and two forgettable players in 2001 and 2003.

Shanahan is hoping for Portis-like success when the Redskins are on the board Friday in the draft's second round.

The Redskins are set to be a spectator for Thursday's first round because of last year's trade that allowed them to move up and select Robert Griffin III.

Shanahan jokes that there's a "one in a million" chance the Redskins will trade to move into the first round.
