The Cincinnati Reds have placed outfielder Ryan Ludwick on the 15-day disabled list.
Ludwick underwent surgery Wednesday morning to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder and is expected to miss at least three months. He suffered the injury while diving head-first into third base during the third inning of Monday's season opener, a 3-1, 13-inning loss to the Angels.
An integral part of Cincinnati's run to last season's National League Central title, Ludwick was re-signed to a two-year contract by the Reds over the winter and batted .275 with 26 home runs and 80 RBI over 125 games in 2012.
