The Boston Red Sox placed left fielder Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of right shoulder inflammation.

Ramirez last played on Aug. 26.

In 105 games this season, Ramirez is hitting .249/.291/.426 with 19 homers and 53 RBI. He signed a four-year, $88 million contract (with a vesting option for the 2019 season) with the team this past offseason.

After a rocky transition from shortstop to left field this season, Ramirez recently began working out at first base --€“ possibly in preparation for another position switch for the 2016 season.
