Pirates' top pick in 2014 will miss most of 2016 with torn labrum

Pittsburgh's top draft pick in 2014 faces missing almost all of the 2016 season after undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Shortstop Cole Tucker, the Pirates' No. 10 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, is expected to miss 10 to 12 months. The switch-hitter was taken as the No. 24 overall pick by Pittsburgh in last year's draft.

In his first minor-league season, the 19-year-old .was batting 293/.322/.377 with two home runs and 25 RBI for Class-A West Virginia.
