Peralta, Brewers blank Reds
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Wily Peralta tossed eight scoreless innings and knocked in two runs as the Milwaukee Brewers took a 2-0 decision from the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.
Peralta (4-1), who allowed three hits and struck out seven to earn the win, had a two-run double in the fifth inning to account for the only scoring on the night.
"It was good, you could see his confidence growing every inning," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said of Peralta. "And then when he put that swing on the ball (in the fifth) he just got stronger from there."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Francisco Rodriguez came on in the ninth and nailed down his 14th save of the season.
Jonathan Lucroy collected three hits, while Lyle Overbay and Jean Segura each scored a run for Milwaukee, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
Mike Leake (2-3) took the tough-luck loss for the Reds, surrendering two runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts over eight innings.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Reds have lost five of their last seven and were shutout for the fourth time this season.
"You have to give credit to solid starting pitching from both pitchers," Reds manager Bryan Price said.
Peralta helped himself out in the fifth to break a scoreless tie. Overbay singled to lead off the frame, then Caleb Gindl walked two batters later.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}After Segura grounded into a force out that put runners at the corners with two outs, Peralta slapped a double over Jay Bruce in right to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead.
Cincinnati didn't have many opportunities to score throughout the evening but threatened in the first, as Chris Heisey and Joey Votto led off with a single and walk, respectively.
Todd Frazier followed Votto by grounding into a 5-3 double play and Peralta struck out Bruce to end the inning.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Votto then opened the fourth with a blast to left that hit off the yellow border on top of the wall and bounced off a railing back onto the field.
Umpires reviewed the call and it was upheld as a double.
"They knew it was something that needed to be reviewed, said Price. "It hit off the top of the yellow and it has to hit that yellow and go out of the ballpark. They got it right."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Votto was stranded on second and the Reds' offense couldn't muster much for the remainder of the game.

Peralta's double was his second hit of the season. The win also marked the first for Peralta against the Reds in Cincinnati. He was 0-2 in four previous starts ... Milwaukee improved to 12-3 on the road this season ... Rodriguez earned his 318th save of his career, moving into a tie for 17th place on the all-time list with Rick Aguilera. Rodriguez hasn't allowed a run in 17 innings this season and is 14-for-14 in save opportunities ... Cincinnati was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position ... Milwaukee was 1-for-7 with RISP.
