Panthers RB Barner, Dockery out for Sunday

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that running back Kenjon Barner and cornerback James Dockery will miss Sunday's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Barner, who rushed for 1,767 yards and 21 touchdowns with Oregon last season and was a sixth-round pick of Carolina in this year's draft, did not participate in practice all week due to a sprained ankle suffered in the preseason.

Dockery, who appeared in seven games for the Panthers a season ago, took limited reps all three days thanks to a thumb issue.

Carolina also listed safety Mike Mitchell as doubtful with a calf issue, while defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (thigh), wide receiver Domenik Hixon (hamstring) and guard Amini Silatolu (hamstring) were all listed as questionable.

Linebacker Jon Beason, dealing with a knee ailment, was listed as probable after being upgraded in practice every day this week until full participation on Friday.
