NHL fines Marchand, Desjardins

The National Hockey League issued $2,500 fines to Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand and San Jose Sharks forward Andrew Desjardins on Monday.
Marchand was docked for his slew-foot of Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen during a December 5 contest.
Desjardins was penalized for boarding Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Sami Lepisto this past Sunday.

Both fines, the maximum allowed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, are automatically placed in the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
