Modeste wins red card appeal

Blackburn striker Anthony Modeste won his appeal to have his suspension reduced from three games to one.

Modeste received a red card in Saturday's match against West Bromwich for kicking out at Baggies defender Billy Jones.

But the suspension has now been reduced to one game from three after Blackburn claimed there were "exceptional circumstances."

A statement on the club's official website on Wednesday read: "Rovers have been successful in their appeal over a three-match ban given to Anthony Modeste.

"The striker was given a straight red for violent conduct on Saturday at the Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion, but today the FA Commission have heard the case on the grounds of exceptional circumstances and have reduced the punishment to a one-match ban with immediate effect.

"This one-match suspension was served last night in the game against Liverpool so the on-loan striker can be considered for selection with immediate effect."

The 23-year-old striker is on loan from Bordeaux and has made five appearances for Blackburn since joining the club in January.
