Martin Kaymer, Rickie Fowler headed home, but amateurs sticking around at US Open

Martin Kaymer's run as the reigning U.S. Open champion is over, sealed with a triple bogey.

Kaymer missed the cut Friday when the second round of the U.S. Open concluded. Kaymer shot 74, but it was a triple bogey he took on the 10th hole that left him trying to catch up on the back nine. Kaymer missed right of the green from the fairway and could never overcome the mistake.

He had plenty of big-name company. Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Graeme McDowell, Ryan Moore and Tiger Woods were all gone before the weekend.

The flip side: Amateurs shined, with the most making the cut in more than 40 years. Brian Campbell is tied for 12th at 1 under and for a short time early Friday had a share of the lead.
