Low signs Germany extension
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Munich, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Germany head coach Joachim Low signed a contract extension on Friday that runs through the 2016 European Championships.
Low took charge of the national team from Jurgen Klinsmann following the 2006 World Cup after serving as an assistant, and the extension will see the 53- year-old lead Germany in its fifth major tournament should the team qualify for Euro 2016 in France.
Germany qualified for a place in the 2014 World Cup with ease, winning nine of its 10 qualifiers with one draw to finish at the top of Group C.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Under Low Germany reached the final of Euro 2008 and the semifinals of the 2010 World Cup, but lost both times to Spain.
The team also reached the semifinals of Euro 2012 before bowing out to Italy, and Low will be charged with helping Germany capture its first major trophy since winning Euro '96.
"Working with the team and the coaching staff makes me very happy," Low said in a statement on the official website of the German Football Association (DFB).
