Braden Looper pitched into the fourth inning in his first start of spring training and allowed a run on five hits as a Chicago Cubs split squad beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-5 Sunday.
Out of baseball last year after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus after the 2009 season, Looper struck out two in 3 2-3 innings. He made relief appearances against the Rangers and Rockies before this start.
Looper also helped his cause by going 2 for 2, including a RBI double in the fourth inning.
