Kronwall scores 36 seconds into OT, Red Wings rally twice in 3rd for wild 7-6 win over Stars

Niklas Kronwall scored 36 seconds into overtime and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Dallas Stars 7-6 on Saturday night after overcoming a pair of two-goal deficits in a wild third period.

Trevor Daley, Cody Eakin and Erik Cole scored in a 3-minute span of the second to give Dallas a 4-2 lead.

But then Jakub Kindl had two goals 45 seconds apart in the third to tie it 4-all in his return to the Red Wings.

Curtis McKenzie and Shawn Horcoff gave the Stars a 6-4 advantage before Justin Abdelkader's power-play goal and Pavel Datsyuk's second of the game tied the score again.

Horcoff's goal chased Jimmy Howard from the game after he gave up a season-high six goals while making 26 saves. Jonas Gustavsson stopped two shots for the Red Wings.

Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen had 29 saves but allowed a season-high seven goals.

Datsyuk also had two assists. Kronwall, Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist each had a goal and an assist.

Daley, Cole, Horcoff and Jamie Benn each had a goal and an assist for the Stars. Jordie Benn and Ales Hemsky had two assists apiece.

The Red Wings had an 8-1 advantage in shots before Jamie Benn woke up the Stars with a fight against Detroit's Jonathan Ericsson 6:46 into the game.

The Dallas captain scored at 12:42 when he put the rebound of his brother's shot past Howard. At that point, the Stars led in shots 9-8.

Nyquist tied the game at 1 at 16:57 with a shot from the slot. The puck went off Lehtonen's blocker to the knob of his stick and into the net.

Datsyuk gave Detroit the lead with an unassisted goal at 9:20 of the second. On a 3-on-1 rush, he skated in from the right side and put a short shot past Lehtonen.

Daley tied the game at 15:16 when Howard went down to stop a shot, but deflected the puck high into the net.

Eakin came back at 17:02 with a shot from the top of the left circle. Cole dug out the puck in front of the net to score at 18:16.

Kindl beat Lehtonen just 56 seconds into the third and again at 1:41.

NOTES: Jamie Benn has scored in six straight games (seven goals, three assists). . Dallas reassigned rookie LW Brendan Ranford to Texas of the AHL. . The Red Wings had won their previous five games in Dallas. . Datsyuk has 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) in 40 career games against the Stars. . Kindl had the first two-goal game of his 242-game career. He was recalled from Grand Rapids of the AHL to replace D Kyle Quincey, who did not play after leaving Friday's practice because of a lower-body injury. . Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg (upper body) left after the second period and did not return. . The Red Wings had not given up more than five goals in their first 56 games.
