Since becoming a first-time father back in October, Kasey Kahne has been learning the ropes of parenthood.

So far, so good for the Hendrick Motorsports driver whose girlfriend, Sam, gave birth to a son, Tanner.

In fact, you might even say that Kahne's biggest parenting surprise has been the lack of surprises.

"It's just, I think, how quickly you learn it," he said on the recent Sprint Cup Series pre-season media tour. "How quickly you learn the things that are thrown at you. You don't really know what you're getting into. At first it's like, 'Man, can I do this? Do I need to know anything?' You just learn it.

"It just happens and you get better at it, and I understand what Tanner's looking for, what he wants, the things that make him happy or not. It's just a process, and it's been great."

One of the aspects of parenting that Kahne has enjoyed the most is watching his son develop.

"From changing diapers, feeding, smiling, starting to teethe, it's just something new every week," he said. "It's a cool process and it's been a very simple process to learn and understand."
