Jets' Brandon Marshall attempts ill-advised lateral, fumbles to Eagles

There was the "Butt Fumble," and then there was this. Brandon Marshall added to the New York Jets' history of embarrassing blunders in the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday as he caught a pass and attempted to lateral the ball back to a trailing teammate.

The Eagles recovered the fumble and returned it 11 yards to the Jets' 36-yard line.

The pass had already gone for 16 yards and a first down as the Jets were driving towards midfield, so Marshall's attempt to flip it backwards while falling to the ground was surprising, to say the least.

It's the type of play a receiver might try on the final play of the game, but certainly not with more than four minutes left in the second quarter.

The Eagles turned the boneheaded play into seven points and extended their lead to 24-0, making Marshall's decision even worse for the Jets. The "Butt Fumble" was bad, but Marshall's lateral was on purpose.
