Iona gives hoops coach Cluess extension

New Rochelle, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Iona has extended the contract of head men's basketball coach Tim Cluess through the 2019-20 season, the school announced Thursday.

"Coach Cluess continues to lead our men to tremendous success," said Iona College president Dr. Joseph E. Nyre. "We have always believed he is the right man for Iona basketball."

The Gaels have won at least 20 games and made a postseason appearance in each of the five years since Cluess took over the program in 2010.

Iona captured its second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular- season title this season but lost again to Manhattan in the league's tournament championship game. It then lost to Rhode Island in the opening round of the NIT to finish with a 26-9 record.

"The Iona College community has embraced my family and I as one of their own and I thank them for it," said Cluess, who led the Gaels to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012 and 2013.

Cluess has compiled a 118-54 record during his stint at Iona.
