Huntelaar salvages draw for Schalke

Schalke moved two points clear of fourth- place Monchengladbach on Sunday as Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored late in the first half to help the club earn a 1-1 draw at Augsburg.

The hosts could have secured themselves of safety with a win, and things looked good early as Sebastian Langkamp headed home a corner kick in the sixth minute to put his team in front.

But Schalke responded in the 38th minute to level the contest as Joel Matip's long ball put Huntelaar through on goal and the Dutchman provided a composed finish for his 25th goal of the season.

Schalke posed little attacking threat after the break but still picked up a point as the club holds a two-point lead over Monchengladbach with two games to play.
