Greece lost 1-0 to the Faeroe Islands on Friday in qualifying for the European Championship, continuing Claudio Ranieri's rough start with the team.

Joan Edmundsson scored in the 61st minute for the Faeroe Islands, which got its first competitive win since a 2-0 victory over Estonia in a Euro qualifier on June 7, 2011. It was ranked 187th among 208 nations in FIFA, compared to No. 18 for Greece.

Ranieri hasn't won a game since taking over as Greece coach in the summer.

Greece, the European champion in 2004, was on the defensive in Piraeus against the mostly amateur islanders, who missed three clear chances before scoring.
