Francesco Molinari recovered from two bogeys in his first three holes to shoot a 3-under 69 on Friday and retain a two-shot clubhouse lead in the second round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Italian made five birdies, including three on the back nine, to reach 10-under in the European Tour's flagship event.

Molinari says "the start was very difficult" but he "managed to steady the ship to make it another good day."

Emiliano Grillo was two shots back after an impressive round of 65, where he made two eagles on the back nine.

The Argentine also holed a steep uphill putt from nearly 50 feet at the 15th for a birdie.
