Former UNLV Runnin' Rebels standout Patrick Savoy arrested in Las Vegas drug string

Former UNLV basketball standout Patrick Savoy has been arrested on suspicion of trafficking cocaine after an undercover operation in Las Vegas.

Police say the 40-year-old was arrested without incident during a traffic stop Wednesday. He had left the Clark County Detention Center by Thursday afternoon.

A police report says an undercover detective met up with Savoy at the Terrible's Hotel & Casino on May 28 and bought $300 worth of cocaine from him.

Prosecutors say the case is still under investigation and formal charges haven't been filed.

The 6-foot-9-inch Savoy played for the Runnin' Rebels from 1993 to 1995 and is ranked No. 81 on the Las Vegas Review-Journal's top 100 basketball players in UNLV history.

There was no answer Thursday at a number listed as Savoy's home phone.
