MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Top seed Roger Federer stormed into the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-2 6-3 6-2 demolition of Romania's Victor Hanescu Thursday.
Federer appeared in great touch against the 47th-ranked Romanian, clubbing 52 winners and landing 67 percent of his first serves.
The Swiss maestro, who was beaten in the final by arch-rival Rafa Nadal last year, was not broken once against Hanescu, and is a step closer to extending his grand slam record to 16 at Melbourne Park.
