Eugenie Bouchard retired from her third-round match against Belinda Bencic because of an abdominal muscle injury at Eastbourne on Wednesday, five days before the start of Wimbledon.

Bouchard, the runner-up at Wimbledon last year, was losing 6-4, 3-0 when she retired.

It was not immediately clear if the injury affects her chances of lining up at Wimbledon, where she's been seeded 12th.

Top-seeded Petra Kvitova pulled out of Eastbourne on Monday because of illness.
