TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have hired former NFL player Brett Maxie as defensive backs coach.

Maxie spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Vanderbilt. Prior to that, he coached defensive backs with the Tennessee Titans for two years.

Maxie played 13 NFL seasons, entering the league as undrafted college free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 1985. He played nine seasons with the Saints before finishing his career with stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers.

The hiring Monday fills the final opening on the staff of new coach Dirk Koetter.
