Diggins helps Notre Dame drop Rutgers

Skylar Diggins scored 15 points to lead five Notre Dame starters in double-figures and the No.2 Fighting Irish easily defeated Rutgers, 71-46, on Sunday.
Jewell Loyd followed with 14 points and Natalie Achonwa and Kayla McBride each poured in 11 for Notre Dame (14-1, 3-0 Big East), which captured its ninth straight victory.
Ariel Braker chipped in with 10 points and six boards for the Fighting Irish.

Erica Wheeler was the only player for the Scarlet Knights (9-7, 0-3) in double-figures, posting 17 points. Rutgers shot a miserable 29.2 percent (14- of-48) for the night in dropping its third straight game.
Notre Dame never trailed in the contest and took advantage of a Scarlet Knights team that scored just one field goal over the final 11 minutes of the first half.
McBride converted a three-point play and Anchonwa put home a layup before sinking two free throws to open up a 28-13 edge for the Fighting Irish.

Precious Person knocked down a triple for Rutgers to pull them within 12 with 5:01 left, but Notre Dame closed out the half on a 9-1 run to take a 37-17 lead into the break.
The Scarlet Knights didn't make another field goal until Betnijah Laney scored on a layup with 16:11 left in the game, but by that point Notre Dame was on top 46-20 and cruised to victory from there.
