Columbia Regional: Day Two

Led by five RBI from Steve Wilkerson the Clemson Tigers routed the Saint Louis Billikens, 10-2, to survive an elimination game and continue forward in the Columbia Regional.

Wilkerson was 2-for-5 with both of his hits home runs while Shane Kennedy went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored for Clemson (40-21). Daniel Gossett walked five batters and allowed five hits but limited the damage to just two runs in six innings for the win.

Alex Kelly was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run for Saint Louis (41-21) which was eliminated from the tournament with its second loss of the regional. Nick Bates was responsible for the loss as he allowed six runs, only three of which were earned, in 3 2/3 innings pitched.

There was also a rout in the other game of the day in the Columbia Regional as the host South Carolina Gamecocks rolled to a 19-3 victory over the Liberty Flames.

Kyle Martin went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI and Connor Bright and Tanner English each knocked in three runs as well for South Carolina (41-18). Jordan Montgomery earned the win by pitching seven scoreless innings in which he struck out 11 batters.

Liberty (35-28) scored all three of its runs in the ninth inning on a home run from Justin Sizemore who was 2-for-4 in the game.

With the win South Carolina is guaranteed a spot in the regional final on Sunday. Meanwhile Liberty and Clemson will meet up in an elimination game earlier in the day for the other slot. Liberty defeated Clemson, 8-3, on Friday.
