The Toronto Blue Jays announced Thursday that rookie infielder Devon Travis has been shut down for the season.
Travis hasn't appeared in a game since July 28 and will have "exploratory surgery" on his shoulder to determine what exactly is the issue.
Prior to his injury, Travis looked to be a Rookie of the Year candidate, hitting .304 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 62 games for the Jays.

Ryan Goins and Darwin Barney will likely split time at second base, with Goins assuming full duties once Troy Tulowitzki is cleared to play.
