Barbara Nicklaus, '1st Lady of Golf,' to receive U.S. Golf Association's highest honor

The wife of Jack Nicklaus has been selected to receive the highest honor from the U.S. Golf Association.

Barbara Nicklaus will be presented with the Bob Jones Award at the U.S. Open in June. The award began in 1955 and recognizes someone who has shown the spirit, character and respect for the game of Jones, who was a nine-time USGA champion.

She is often referred to as the "First Lady of Golf." Barbara Nicklaus has used her influence as the wife of Nicklaus to generate attention for youth-related charities while raising five children. She's chair of the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation.

Jones was the greatest influence on Nicklaus' career. Jack and Barbara Nicklaus are the first married couple to receive the award separately.
