Waiting for Trump

UPDATE: Thursday evening the Iowa Republican Party put out a statement canceling the event after Trump finally communicated he would not attend.

If you believe an e-mail exchange from a Donald Trump executive assistant, then the would-be presidential candidate is not going to a June fundraiser for the Iowa Republican Party where he is the star attraction.

Problem is, nobody's told the Iowa GOP that.

When Trump decided not to run for the Oval Office, Fox News producer Kathleen Foster immediately emailed executive assistant Thuy Colayco, asking whether Trump was going to honor his commitments to the Lincoln Day Dinner June 10.

The response: "Mr. Trump will not be attending."

That was Monday at 6 pm ET. As of Thursday evening, Trump's decision to nix the Iowa speaking engagement has not been communicated to his hosts.

"When we have something, we'll get back with you," was the response from Iowa GOP communications director Casey Mills when we asked if the party has been told Trump may not be coming.

Were Trump to withdraw from the event, the Iowa GOP would need to hustle a bit to find a replacement keynote speaker. It may prove difficult to attract a new speaker without knowing if Trump may indeed show up, but it is the First in the Nation caucus state a year before a presidential election.

We did attempt to clarify with Trump's office, but received no response.
