Oprah and the Obamas, Together Again

President and Mrs. Obama will travel to Chicago April 27 for a taping of the Oprah Winfrey show.

The president and First Lady will sit for an interview for Oprah's last season, her 25th, which ends May 25. White House officials say the show featuring the first couple will air May 2.

The Chicago trip will be the second this month for Mr. Obama. He is scheduled to return to his home town - where his 2012 reelection headquarters is based - Thursday for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser and will head back again about two weeks later for three more fundraisers and the Oprah taping. The president hasn't visited the Windy City since last October when he appeared at two fundraisers for senatorial candidate Alexi Giannoulias.

The Obamas and Oprah are of course friends and were seen out together in Chicago as recently as last August to celebrate the president's birthday. Oprah announced her support of then Illinois Senator Barack Obama, very early in the presidential campaign. The move was considered somewhat risky, as talk show hosts don't typically endorse political candidates. And while some polling at the time showed she took a bit of a hit for her first political backing, that didn't stop Ms. Winfrey from hosting fundraisers for - she raised some $3 million in 2007 for Obama's presidential campaign - and appearing with, the candidate. Some say the TV icon's support helped propel candidate Obama toward victory in 2008, and as the Oprah show winds down, having now president Obama on her set might help rev up some excitement for his second campaign.

The Obamas have worked with Oprah before. The president first appeared on the show in 2005 and then 2006. In 2009 the couple taped a Christmas special from the White House and Mrs. Obama was most recently a guest on Oprah in January and has been featured in Oprah's "O" Magazine.
