President Obama called out Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Friday for blocking ratification of pending international tax treaties, two of which deal with offshore banking havens Switzerland and Luxembourg.
Paul has "been a little quirky on this issue," Obama said to reporters in the White House.
The treaties "actually improve law enforcement's ability to investigate and crack down on offshore tax evasion; and I'm assuming that's not something that he's in favor of," Obama said during a last-minute news conference on Friday meant to highlight the Treasury Department's new efforts, unveiled Friday morning, to curb tax dodging and stem money laundering.
