“SNL” producers had one more emotional moment up their sleeves among the laughs on Sunday’s 40th anniversary show that didn’t come off: getting injured Tracy Morgan back on TV.

Morgan, an “SNL” regular from 1996 till 2003, hasn’t made a public appearance since the terrible accident last year that left one dead and Morgan and three others seriously injured.

Sources told The New York Post the comic was asked to appear on-air and make his TV comeback.

“They really wanted him to be there, but when it came down to it, he just isn’t mentally or emotionally ready to appear on TV yet,” a friend of the star told Page Six.

Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin instead paid tribute to the recuperating actor with a classic clip.
