She was the last person to see Gina DeJesus before her disappearance. Nine years later, Arlene Castro found out her father may have abducted and repeatedly raped her former middle school friend.
Her father, Ariel Castro, faces several counts of kidnapping and rape in the abduction of three women, including DeJesus – who was a close friend of Arlene Castro. The two girls, who were 14 when DeJesus went missing in April 2004, were walking home from school before they split up, and DeJesus was never seen again for almost a decade.
“I’m really disappointed, embarrassed, mainly devastated about this whole situation,” Arlene Castro told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Thursday.

Castro, who now lives in Indiana, says she and her father were never really close and that they only had short conversations in recent years. She said she had no idea about the allegations her father is facing.
“Every time my father and I spoke, it was just short conversations. It was just ‘Hello. How are you doing?’ Let me know if you need anything. And that was it, every time,” she told the show.
Arlene Castro was also interviewed in 2005 by Fox’s “America’s Most Wanted.” She told the interviewer she was the last person to see DeJesus.
“My mom said I couldn’t go over her house [that day]. I told [Gina DeJesus] I couldn’t and she said ‘OK. I’ll talk to you later,” Castro told the show. “And she just walked.”
Little did Arlene Castro know that it was allegedly her father who would see her next.
