The Hottest Adults-Only Vacation Spots

Had any of the latest round of famous philanderers booked themselves and their “ladies” into a discreet adult-only resort for a bit of slap and tickle, rather than keeping it close to home, they may have avoided headlines and cataclysmic career and marital disasters.

Demand for adult-only vacations from regular people is on the rise as UK’s Thomson Holidays has officially kicked off Thomson Couples, an all-new adults-only holiday experience aimed at couples that want to spend time in a child-free environment. Is that all it takes to be a sexy place? No kids?

Others weave romance with lust suggesting Montreal, yes, as in Quebec and Canada, (but that respondent was 30 years younger and was on the town with a Greek god), others say Venice, Rio, Paris, Sardinia, Sicily and Sweden and the Galapagos Islands, where you can watch God’s good creatures be, well, sexy.

As depicted in the film, “Couples Retreat,” part of which was filmed at the St. Regis Resort on Bora Bora, The South Seas never disappoints – whether vacationing on Fiji, or plying the sea aboard a Paul Gauguin cruise. “With the exception of Papeete you can basically move around topless everywhere [on resort grounds.] Of course Americans don’t do that, but some Europeans do,” says Heinz Wesner from Tahiti Travel Planners.

"Adult-only" just begins to describe what makes a vacation sexy. Travel counselor Paul Gregory from Astoria, NY-based Crown Peters doesn’t hesitate to suggest “Mykonos because there you can be exposed to an array of experiences and naturalist beaches are just the beginning.”

Closer to home are resorts with heart-shaped tubs en suite and rooms with mirrors on the ceilings in the Poconos, or going au naturel on Martha’s Vineyard. For those aiming to enlighten themselves, there are yoga retreats in Bali that focus on teaching Kama Sutra positions to enhance one’s private pleasures.

Doug Cooke, publisher of travel trade publication Jax Fax, sees a definite uptick in adult-only resorts, especially in the Caribbean. Hedonism, the quintessential adult-only resort, has a nude and a prude side while Club Orient’s slogan, “nothing is better” tells it all about what is happening on Orient Bay in St. Martin in the French West Indies.

Ian Keown, whose guidebooks include his own series of lovers’ guides: Guide to France for Loving Couples, Very Special Places: A Lover’s Guide to America, European Hideaways and Caribbean Hideaways ticks off a few: Breezes Negril, Jamaica is dotted with hot tubs and a tucked-away bare-buff-only beaches; St. Lucia’s resorts boast private pools, enhanced by hammocks hidden in the gardens under palms and casuarinas at Rendezvous, Millionaire Suites with private pools and discreet butlers, private cabanas, and 24-hr room service at Sandals LaToc, and Anse Chastanet set in 600 lush tropical acres bordering two soft sand beaches.

The five-star Graycliff’s name sounds formal and its Cigar package may only be a Cigar package, but its celebrity fan base includes Michael Jordan, Jay-Z and Beyonce, Bill Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, Nicholas Cage, and Lenny Kravitz, according to the resort.

If it’s celebrity skin you’re itching to see, try Island Routes’ adult-only catamaran cruises to Floyde’s Pelican Bar, in Parottee Bay, about a mile offshore with stops for snorkeling, a beach stop at picturesque Font Hill and a swim‐up bar in the extreme.

Recently-sighted celebs? Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos, The Bachelor's newest newlyweds Jason and Molly Mesnick, Bravo's hottest housewife Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Tristan Wilds from that most-watched zipcode 90210, Trauma’s Aimee Garcia, Olympian Julia Mancuso, The City’s Roxy Olin, Ryan Rottman, Jesse Metcalfe and Antonio Sabato, Jr.

Prudish Americans don’t blink an eye at the Las Vegas’ slogan, “What happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas,” with East Coast casino cousin Atlantic City upping the ante to include the debut of Naked Circus at Resorts Casino Hotel. A few years ago Las Vegas tried to transform itself into a family destination but that campaign was an abysmal failure; the town has since found its groove with the old marketing line.

Adult-only resorts are not havens for the perverse, but simply retreats from the norm and that includes -- kids in the pool, kids underfoot and kids screeching from high chairs at elegant buffet breakfasts. All offer a chance to stop, look, listen and lighten up on the textiles you may be wearing.
