The St. Louis Blues have kept one of their burgeoning talents in the fold, signing defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to a four-year contract.

The 24-year-old was slated to become a restricted free agent on July 5.

Shattenkirk ranked second among Blues defensemen with 23 points (5g, 18a) while playing all 48 games this past season.

The Blues acquired the former first-round pick in a trade with Colorado on Feb. 19, 2011.

In 201 career games, Shattenkirk, who was taken 14th overall by the Avalanche in 2007, has compiled 23 goals and 109 points.
