Dallas Stars officials talked about building for the future when they traded captain Brenden Morrow, then dealt away scoring leader Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy.

The young Stars still have a chance to make something happen this season.

Dallas is still contending for a playoff spot two weeks after Jagr and Roy were traded, deals that came a week after Morrow was gone.

With six games left, the Stars on Wednesday were 10th in the Western Conference. But they were only two points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

Stars center Jamie Benn says it was tough losing that trio of veterans. But he says the players came together as a group and are a younger, better and faster team. Dallas hosts Vancouver on Thursday night.
