Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco received a three-game suspension and an undiclosed fine from Major League Baseball on Wednesday for making contact with an umpire.

The infraction occurred in the third inning of Monday's loss to the Padres, when Mesoraco made contact with umpire Chad Fairchild while arguing a pitch call.

Mesoraco will begin serving his suspension on Wednesday against the Padres, unless he chooses to appeal.

The 24-year-old catcher, who made his major league debut in 2011, is batting .221 with five homers and 14 RBI in 46 games with the Reds this season.
