Stoke-on-Trent, England (Sports Network) - Stoke City signed goalkeeper Carlo Nash to a new one-year contract Friday.

The 38-year-old Nash has spent the last two seasons with Stoke, and will stay with the club through the upcoming season as cover for goalies Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen.

"It is important for us to have three top goalkeepers in the squad at this level and we are as strong in that department as any Premier League club," Stoke manager Tony Pulis said.

"At this stage of his career, it was only natural that Carlo wanted to explore the possibility of playing first team football elsewhere when his contract expired at the end of last season, but we are delighted that he has now decided to stay here."

Nash has not appeared in the Premier League with Stoke, but has played Carling Cup matches.
