Motherwell thrashes St. Johnstone at Fir Park

Motherwell, Scotland – Motherwell thrashed visiting St. Johnstone on Saturday, claiming a comfortable 5-1 win at Fir Park to clinch a European place.

Two goals in three first-half minutes saw Motherwell take the lead inside the opening 20 minutes. Micheal Higdon converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute before Nicky Law doubled the advantage shortly after.

Jamie Murphy extended the lead in the 52nd minute, but Liam Craig pulled one back from the penalty spot seven minutes later.

Craig's goal proved to nothing more than consolation as Henrik Ojamaa sealed the emphatic win with two goals in the final seven minutes.

The win sees Motherwell move five points clear in third place in the Scottish Premier League, sitting eight points better than St. Johnstone.

Kilmarnock 4, Inverness 3

Kilmarnock, Scotland - Dean Shiels netted twice in the final 10 minutes to see Kilmarnock claim a 4-3 victory over 10-man Inverness on Saturday.

James Fowler put the home side in front before William McKay's brace saw Inverness take the lead. Jonathan Hayes was sent off in the 58th minute, and Killie took advantage of the extra man as Michael Nelson equalized before Shiels sealed the victory. Steve Williams pulled a late goal back for Inverness.

Killie's two straight wins lift the club to 43 points, 11 points better than Inverness.

Dunfermline 3, Aberdeen 0

Dunfermline, Scotland - Andy Kirk scored twice to help Dunfermline to a 3-0 home defeat of Aberdeen on Saturday.

Joe Cardle put the home side in front in the 56th minute before Kirk extended the lead with goals in the 68th and 77th minutes.

Dunfermline moved to within three points of second-from-bottom Hibernian, while Aberdeen became the first away side to lose at East End Park this season.

Dundee United 2, Hearts 2

Dundee, Scotland - Arvydas Novikovas produced a fine equalizer late on to help Hearts salvage a point in a 2-2 draw with Dundee United at Tannadice Park on Saturday.

Willo Flood and Rudi Skacel exchanged goals three minutes apart in the first half before Gary Mackay-Steven handed the home side another lead in the 65th minute.

But the visitors were not to be undone as Novikovas slammed a shot past Dusan Pernis from 25 yards out to earn Hearts a share of the spoils.
