The St. Louis Cardinals have placed veteran reliever Scott Linebrink on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder capsulitis.
The move is retroactive to March 30, and St. Louis has purchased the contract of right-hander Victor Marte from Triple-A Memphis to fill Linebrink's bullpen spot.
Linebrink, 35, agreed to a minor league deal with the Cardinals in February and earned a spot on the team's 40-man roster thanks to an earned run average of 1.69 in 10 appearances this spring.
Marte allowed one earned run on six hits in 10 Grapefruit League innings. The 31-year-old hurler last appeared in the majors with Kansas City in 2010.
