Coastal Carolina with pair in Super Bowl 50

(STATS) - People in the Coastal Carolina program were thrilled to have two former players selected to the Pro Bowl this season.

But it turns out fullback Mike Tolbert and cornerback Josh Norman will miss the trip to Hawaii. There is something bigger in store for the Carolina Panthers players - Super Bowl 50.

Their NFC championship team will play in football's biggest game for the second time, facing the Denver Broncos at Levi's Stadium on Feb. 7. Super Bowl participants miss the Pro Bowl, which will be played Sunday in Honolulu.

Tolbert is in his eighth NFL season and fourth with the Panthers after signing with them in 2012. That same year, they selected Norman in the fifth round of the draft.

"We get a travel bag, not a trash bag. I'm not in here Monday getting a trash bag and cleaning my locker out and going home," Norman said after Sunday's 49-15 win over Arizona in the NFC championship game. "No. I'm in here packing my bags to go to Santa Clara because that's where we'll be. And I just cannot wait."

Defensive end Jared Allen (Idaho State, 12th NFL season) is another Carolina starter, but he was sidelined for the conference title game because of a broken foot. Among his backups is Ryan Delaire, the rookie out of Towson.

Wide receiver Brenton Bersin (Wofford, second season), cornerback Cortland Finnegan (Samford, 10th) and safety Dean Marlowe (James Madison, rookie) also are members of the Panthers' active roster, while defensive end Rakim Cox (Villanova, first) is a member of the practice squad.

The AFC champion Broncos beat New England 20-18 to reach the Super Bowl for the eighth time. The Broncos don't have any starters from the FCS level, but inside linebacker Todd Davis (Sacramento State, second) and offensive guard Robert Myers Jr. (Tennessee State, rookie) are backups on the active roster.

Tight end Dan Light (Fordham, rookie) is on the practice squad and wide receiver Jace Davis (Northern Colorado, first) is a member of the reserve/future unit.
