Hendrick Motorsports has made a change to the No. 88 pit crew of Dale Earnhardt Jr. ahead of Sunday's opening Chase for the Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway.

A Hendrick spokeswoman confirmed to FOXSports.com on Wednesday afternoon that David Mayo has returned as the team's front-tire changer after being replaced at that position the past two weekends by Kevin Novak.

Novak has been a backup crew member for Earnhardt and teammate Jimmie Johnson since December, and was a starting tire changer on the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports team of David Gilliland this year before getting a shot with Earnhardt's team at Darlington and Richmond.

Other than the past two weekends, Mayo has been the front-tire changer for the No. 88 team since February.

Devin DelRicco will continue as the team's rear-tire changer, a role he's held since mid-season.
