MARSEILLE, France (AP) Abou Diaby is set to join Marseille on a free transfer after the French league club announced it reached an ''agreement in principle'' with the former Arsenal midfielder.

Diaby, who was released by the Gunners this summer, opted to return to France after rejecting an offer from West Bromwich Albion.

He spent 10 seasons in north London, scoring 19 goals, but has hardly played over the past two years because of injuries.

The 29-year-old Diaby, who also played for Auxerre in the French league, has 16 caps with France. He will reunite with former Arsenal teammate Lassana Diarra, who joined Marseille last week.
