Marseille, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Marseille eased past Rennes in a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday.

The hosts were held scoreless until the 50th minute when Andre-Pierre Gignac broke the deadlock.

Gignac doubled Marseille's advantage 13 minutes later with his sixth goal of the campaign, leaving Rennes with a mountain to climb in the final quarter of the match.

The visitors were unable to close the gap as Romain Alessandrini tacked on a late strike for Marseille, which improves to 13 points on the season to move into a tie with Bordeaux for top spot.

Nantes stayed within three points of Marseille by getting a 2-1 win over Nice on Saturday.

Papy Djilobodji opened the scoring in the ninth minute while Itay Shechter doubled the club's advantage in 43rd. It proved to be a crucial strike as Jordan Amavi pulled one back for Nice in the second half, but it failed to give way to an equalizer.

Toulouse and Caen split the points in thrilling fashion on Saturday as the two sides played to a 3-3 draw.

Caen was in front, 2-1, heading into the final seven minutes when the match erupted with three goals.

Adrien Regattin brought Toulouse level from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute, and while Jean Calve thought he had won it for Caen with a goal in the 86th, Palve Ninkov struck one minute later to give Toulouse a share of the spoils.

Also on Saturday, Metz claimed a 3-1 win over Bastia while Benjamin Moukandjo nabbed the lone goal for Reims in a 1-0 defeat of Lorient.
