Stadler, Karlsson share lead at suspended OHL Classic

Playa del Carmen, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Stadler fired an 8-under 63 in his second round Friday to claim a share of the lead at the suspended OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Robert Karlsson carded a 4-under 67 during his second round at El Camaleon Golf Course to meet Stadler at 12-under-par 130.

The first round of the tournament had to be completed Friday as play was suspended on Thursday due to inclement weather, leading to play eventually being suspended for darkness.

"It was a very long day, but I couldn't be happier than I am right now with this round," said Stadler.

Rory Sabbatini was 6-under through 17 holes to sit in a tie for third place with Chris Stroud at 9-under. Stroud was 4-under through 15 holes to grab his share of third place.

Jhonattan Vegas (68) and Ryan Moore (67) were able to complete their second rounds and own a portion of fifth with Pat Perez and Jay McLuen at 8-under. Perez and McLuen had each completed 14 holes when play was called for the day.

Jason Bohn (68) was in the clubhouse at 7-under 135 and was joined in a share of ninth place by Scott Brown, who will have to complete his final hole when play resumes at 7:45 a.m. (ET) Saturday.

Karlsson held a 2-stroke lead over Brian Stuard and Kisner at 8-under when the first round was completed early Friday, but it was Vegas who cut Karlsson's advantage to one when he birdied his first two holes of the second round to move to 7-under.

Stadler birdied the seventh to join Vegas in second before Karlsson regained some cushion with four straight gains from the fifth to move to 12-under.

Stadler, meanwhile, birdied the 12th to claim sole possession of second at 8- under.

He pulled closer to Karlsson with his second consecutive birdie at the 13th to reach minus-9 moments before play was halted for inclement weather.

When play resumed just 26 minutes later, Stadler followed a par at the 14th with a birdie effort at the par-3 15th to cut further into his deficit at 10- under.

Karlsson regained his 3-stroke lead with a birdie at the 13th, but Stadler answered with a lengthy birdie effort from the fringe at the 17th to pull back within two.

Karlsson's advantage dropped to just a stroke following his bogey at the 16th, and then was erased when Stadler closed his second round with a birdie at the 18th to meet Karlsson atop the leaderboard at 12-under.

Karlsson's second straight bogey at the 17th briefly handed Stadler the outright lead before Karlsson bounced back with a 6-foot birdie at the last to reclaim his share of first place.

NOTES: Twenty-nine players were able to complete their second rounds ... Defending champion John Huh was one of those players to complete his second round and currently owns a share of 23rd place at 4-under 138 ... Stuard did not start his second round ... Stadler and Karlsson are both seeking their first career win on the PGA Tour ... Karlsson does not have status on the PGA Tour and is in the field following his top-10 finish in last week's McGladrey Classic, where he received a sponsor exemption.
